11-16 Ford Super Duty Remote Start Ultimate DIY Guide
Foreward
I am keeping this intro short and sweet, I am mostly making it because the video tutorials online SUCK and are half-assed, wrong, or flat out for the incorrect generation of truck. This project is very straight forward, and requires just about an hour between install and programming.
Prerequisites
For this project you will need the following:
Remote start antenna and module
I went with an OEM Ford kit from eBay, however your mileage may vary with aftermarket kits
A Windows Laptop w/ FORscan
Your trucks keys (2 already programmed to the truck)
Basic hand tools like a flat head screwdriver and snips.
Your truck MUST be equipped with the hood open sensor for programming to work.
The part number for this is BC3Z-14018-A
The pigtail to connect to this sensor is equipped on all trucks. However some trucks were not equipped with the sensor itself. This sensor is required so that the truck knows the hood is not open when it starts the engine remotely.
Build Process
Part 1 - Keys & Key Programming
The first thing to do once you get your 2 new keys is to get them cut and programmed to the truck. This can be done without any software. There is a lot of half-right information on the proper way to program these new keys, so this is the FULL process to follow.
Acquire the remote start, 4-button keys (see Amazon affiliate link above!)
Key Cutting: Have your keys cut to match the original keys for the truck, I had this done at my local Ace Hardware. It cost me a whopping $4.50 (and yes this is in 2025).
Programming the Immobilizer: With the keys cut we will now program them to the immobilizer so that they can actually start the vehicle.
Insert an existing programmed truck key and cycle it from off to position 2 (right before start) and back to off.
Insert another existing key and cycle it from off to pos. 2 and back to off.
Insert the new cut key, and repeat the off > pos.2 > off cycle and then start the vehicle. You should hear the vehicles door locks cycle to confirm the key has been accepted.
Repeat process to add second new cut key. (if applicable).
Programming the Remote Locking: This allows you to use the buttons on the fobs.
Insert an original key into the truck and cycle it from off-pos. 2-off 8 times. This will cause the locks to cycle in the doors. Leave the key in the ignition in pos. 2
Now in the programming mode hit any button on the new key fob. You will hear the door locks cycle. You can do this for any amount of new fobs you have.
Remove the key from the ignition to end the programming mode.
Part 2 - Receiver Module
We will now install the module for the remote start kit. Begin by emptying out your glovebox and using the push tab in the corner to allow it to drop all the way down. This will give you access to everything we need to be working on.
(Visual steps coming soon, sorry!)
Part 3 - Programming
(This guide assumes you have a basic understanding of how to use FORScan. For a step by step guide on setup you can visit this link). With your FORScan laptop connected to the truck, we will make a change to a few lines.
BdyCM - Enter the body control module (as built), and make a backup of the original file.
Change 726-19-01 from x0xx to x1xx.
Optional (for trucks with the basic gauge cluster): Change 726-49-02 for how long you want the remote start to run before turning off automatically.
*1*1 - 5 min (Remote Start Duration)
*2*2 - 10 min (Remote Start Duration)
*3*3 - 15 min (Remote Start Duration)
For trucks with the full screen (non XL/XLT) gauge cluster, you will need to enable the following lines for the IPC:
(Image coming soon)
Click WRITE, and it will apply the changes to the trucks BdyCM.
Done!
With the truck locked, you should now be able to double press the remote start button on the key fob and have the vehicle start.
Note: All of the AC settings will retain whatever the truck was previously set to when it was previously driven.
